TAKE 2, SlabStox Nov. 22 Card Market Report:

Topps pulled off something unique and dare we say NEW in the sports card hobby. They launched a huge Topps MVP Buyback program bringing collectors to local card shops (LCS), exchanging 2022 Topps Chrome MVP baseball cards for in-store credit. From November 26 until March 31, 2023, collectors can bring 2022 Topps Chrome cards of the MLB MVPs, Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt, to participating local card shops and exchange them for in-store credit.

It’s an innovative and positive approach from Topps to brew up excitement in the hobby and baseball card market. How did the new program affect the secondary market? From November 1 to November 22, there were ~223 sales of 2022 Topps Chrome Baseball cards of the Judge/Goldschmidt. After the announcement, (November 23 to November 30) there were ~1,124 cards sold. Over FIVE TIMES as many. On top of that, Aaron Judge Refractors were $10 before the announcement; now they’re $30.
