Analysis: Before Monday night, the list of players to score 71 or more points was five players long. This list consisted of 5 HOFers and it included Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, Elgin Baylor and David Robinson. After Monday night, the list grew to six, when Donovan Mitchell scored 71 points in an OT win against the Bulls. That’s not all he did though; he also added in 11 assists and 8 rebounds which brought him the closest to the first 70+ point triple-double in NBA history. Of the players to score 70+ and have a double-double, the next closest player to a triple-double was David Robinson who missed by 5 assists. It was an all around incredible game from Mitchell due to not only his stats, but his huge moments in the game. He kept his team in it when they were down, tied it up on a miraculous missed free throw put back and led his team to victory in OT. That game put a jolt into his market.
