It seems like every week we are seeing new all-time high selling prices for Prizm and Topps Chrome rookie cards of NBA stars. This week, it is no different, as Giannis Antetokounmpo Prizm Base RC PSA 10s are now selling just under $2,000. If you were to buy one just before the season started, you would’ve paid around $500. If you were to sell today, it’d be a return-on-investment of 247%.
Currently, the Bucks are on pace for a 70-win season, home court advantage through the whole playoffs, and a 63% probability to win the NBA Finals (via @ESPN BPI). You might say, “Aaron, they just lost to the Heat last night and were held to under 100 points, this Bucks hype isn’t warranted.” Here’s my response: 1) It was the Bucks third game in four days. 2) The Heat made 18 of 37 threes (49%). 3) The Bucks made 7 of 34 threes (21%). 4) The Bucks were on the road and the Heat are a very good team. In a 7-game series, I’d be thoroughly surprised if a team repeats an 18 for 37 three point shooting performance. I’d be even more surprised if the Bucks repeated a 7 for 34 three point shooting performance; therefore, the odds of the Bucks not making the NBA Finals is incredibly slim.If the Bucks make the Finals and beats one of the LA squads (or a different team), how much is this card worth? There is a real chance if Giannis locks up his first ring and NBA Finals MVP this is selling for over $3,500. We can’t wait to find out when the NBA Playoffs come!
