SGC 8 POP: 34
Analysis: This 1969 Topps Hank Aaron SGC 8 just sold for an all-time high of $734. While that is interesting in and of itself, what’s more interesting is its POP count (34) and its limited sales history. This card has sold 17 times since 2007, which is half of its pop count, and only three times since 2019. We looked for a modern card with a POP of 34 to compare it to, and we found it in the 2018 Topps Chrome Sapphire Shohei Ohtani RC BGS 9.5. This Ohtani card, despite being the exact same POP as the ‘69 Hank, has sold 15 times total but all of them were since 2019. So in three years not only did it sell five times more than the Hank did, but it almost sold as many times total as the Hank did in 15 years. Our main takeaway? Vintage collectors are content to hold onto their cards for years, and when something like this pops up, people pay to get it in their collection.
